The Department of Nursing of the School of Nursing and Midwifery at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Kumasi, held its maiden Postgraduate Nursing Seminar/Exhibition of Research Proposals on the 7th March 2024 to provide a platform to showcase a proposed research works and build the competencies in conference presentations, public speaking and research output of Postgraduate students.

The one-day event saw twenty-five (25) presentations from postgraduate students. The poster presentations were these thematic areas; Global Health, Non-Communicable Diseases and Nursing interventions aimed at improving health outcomes of patients suffering from cancer, diabetes, stroke, hypertension, hepatitis, emergency care, contraception, childcare, rehabilitation, among others.

Prof. Veronica Dzomeku, the Dean of the School of Nursing and Midwifery in her remarks, asserted that the Department had conducted research over the years by Students and faculty contributing to academic discourse and finding solutions to health challenges in the country and beyond.

She lauded the efforts of the School of Nursing and Midwifery in having five (5) successful years of graduating over 100 MSc and MPhil nursing students.  Prof Dzomeku stated that the School of Nursing and Midwifery is proud of having past students contributing to the faculty and sister universities both locally and internationally.

Prof. Christian Agyare the Provost of the College of Health Sciences urged the students to embrace feedback, focus on completion of projects within time, and explore the structures put in place by the College to support research with grants. He applauded the School of Nursing and Midwifery for the organisation of such an event and added that as future academics and practitioners, such academic exercise will enable students to prepare and participate in research conferences and execute their own poster presentations and research.
