University Council Appoints Dr. Charles Nsiah As Finance Officer
The University Council, at its 280th (Regular) Meeting held on Friday, 12th April 2024, has appointed Dr. Charles Nsiah as the Finance Officer of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), KNUST for a term of five (5) years, effective 1st May 2024.
Dr. Nsiah, the current Deputy Finance Officer for the College of Health Sciences, is a determined individual with interdisciplinary knowledge. He has over 16 years of professional experience in Accounting and Financial Management.
Dr. Nsiah completed his professional accountancy qualification (ACCA) in 2007. He has since 2012 been a fellow and a member of the ACCA and the Institute of Chartered Accountants, Ghana (ICAG) respectively. Dr. Nsiah holds a Doctor of Philosophy Degree in Business and Management (Accounting Option) from KNUST; an MBA in Financial Management from the University of Exeter, UK; and First-Class Honours in Accounting and Finance from London South Bank University.
Dr. Charles Nsiah has vast experience in public sector accounting and financial management, including the preparation of financial statements under IPSAS, design and implementation of financial controls in line with the Public Financial Management Act, budget preparation and monitoring, project financial management, as well as staff management, and system improvement. He played a key role in the adoption of IPSAS by KNUST in 2019 and led the team that revised the KNUST Accounting Policies and Procedures Manual to be IPSAS compliant.
Dr. Nsiah has been a full-time staff of KNUST since 2010 and has held various positions within the University, including Head of Payables, Acting College Finance Officer – College of Engineering, Acting College Finance Officer – College of Humanities and Social Sciences, Institute Finance Officer- Institute of Distance Learning (IDL), and currently Deputy Finance Officer and the College Finance Officer for the College of Health Sciences. Aside his full-time accounting work at KNUST, he developed a Master of Science (MSc.) Programme in Industrial Finance and Investment, a demand-driven programme that has run successfully at KNUST-IDL since 2012. Dr. Nsiah has been lecturing on a part-time basis at the postgraduate level at the Institute of Distance Learning (IDL), KNUST, since 2012 and has supervised several MSc/MBA theses.
Currently, Dr. Charles Nsiah serves as the Audit Committee Chairman for Asokore Mampong Municipal Assembly and the immediate past Audit Committee Chairman of Effiduase Government Hospital, both in the Ashanti Region. He is a member of the Church of Christ Mission Hospital Board, Bomso, and also serves as the Chairman of the Finance Sub-Committee of the Board. Dr. Nsiah has also served as a member of the Governing Board of the Agogo Presbyterian Women's College of Education.
