Physician Assistants are healthcare professionals licensed to practice medicine within defined limits. The Physician Assistant (PA) is not a Physician replacement, but works under the supervision of a Physician to extend healthcare services, especially in underserved areas. They are ranked hierarchically above nurses and medical assistants, but below medical doctors.
