Professor (Mrs.) Cynthia Amaning Danquah, Professor of Pharmacology and Head of the Department of Pharmacology at the KNUST College of Health Sciences, has been named Winner of the Science and Sustainability Award at the Study UK Alumni Awards Ghana 2026.

The announcement, made by the British Council under the Study UK Alumni Awards initiative, recognises outstanding UK alumni who are driving meaningful change and impact in their home countries and globally.

Her work focuses on tuberculosis, antimicrobial resistance, and natural product pharmacology: areas central to global health security and sustainable healthcare systems. Over the years, she has established advanced research laboratories, secured competitive international grants, mentored postgraduate researchers, and strengthened cross-border scientific collaborations.

Her UK training, she has noted in several academic engagements, enhanced her scientific rigour, critical thinking, and access to global research networks, foundations that have significantly shaped her contributions to pharmaceutical sciences and drug discovery in Ghana.

Since returning to Ghana, Prof. Amaning Danquah has played a transformative role in strengthening research capacity at KNUST. She is the first female Head of the Department of Pharmacology and continues to champion STEM mentorship, particularly encouraging women and young scientists to pursue careers in health research and pharmaceutical innovation.

Her recognition under the Study UK Alumni Awards underscores the growing global visibility of KNUST’s research ecosystem and aligns with the University’s strategic vision of driving excellence in research, innovation, and sustainable development.

The University community warmly congratulates Prof. Amaning Danquah on this distinguished international honour and celebrates her as a proud ambassador of KNUST and Ghana on the global scientific stage.
