Laboratory Scientists training on Molecular Diagnostics

The Genomics and Infectious Disease Laboratory (GIDL) of the KNUST College of Health Sciences organize intensive training/workshop on Molecular Diagnostics, Infectious Diseases and modern diagnostic Device Operations for personnel within the public health laboratory sector.

The training is usually held at the GIDL facility in Kumasi and brings together laboratory scientists and PhD students who work on diseases of public health concern. The workshop sought to strengthen participants’ capacity in modern molecular diagnostic techniques and the practical use of the molecular diagnostic platform for rapid detection of infectious diseases.

The event was supported through collaboration between the Centre for Health Systems Strengthening (CfHSS), the Ghana Health Service, and partners, including KOICA and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Johns Hopkins Program for International Education in Gynaecology and Obstetrics and a host of other global health organisations.

 

Training of Animal Health Workers, Farmers and Veterinary Staff

The School of Veterinary Medicine (SVM) of the College of Health Sciences at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) in collaboration with the Veterinary Services, Ministry of Food and Agriculture (MoFA), World Health Organisation (WHO), Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO), and the World Organisation for Animal Health (WOAH), organises workshop to train farmers and veterinary staff on the Monitoring Tool for Antimicrobial Use (AMU) in Terrestrial and Aquatic animals at farm hatcheries and veterinary clinics.

Clinical Instructors and Preceptors training

This is a workshop organised periodically by the KNUST School of Nursing and Midwifery and the Faculty of Allied Health Sciences and the Faculty of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences for clinical instructors and preceptors from affiliated health training sites who aid in the practical training of students to equip them with refreshed knowledge to improve the training and assessment of students.

 

Advanced Training Programme for Herbal Medicine Practitioners

The Department of Herbal Medicine, Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Kumasi (KNUST), in partnership with the Ghana Federation of Traditional Medicine Practitioners Associations (GHAFTRAM), has launched a specialised practitioner training programme aimed at raising standards in herbal medicine practice and pharmaceutical manufacturing in Ghana.

The programme seeks to bridge indigenous herbal knowledge with modern scientific and regulatory standards to enhance the quality, safety and global competitiveness of herbal medicine production in the country.

Pathological Specimen Potting

SMS Trains Health Science Technicians in Pathological Specimen Potting

The School of Medical Sciences at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) trained technicians from the College of Health Sciences in potting pathological specimens. The training is part of efforts to build in-house capacity for preparing and preserving specimens used in medical education. The training also opens opportunities for other departments, such as Anatomy, Veterinary Medicine, and Pharmacy, to preserve various types of specimens for their academic and research needs.
