A 2-member team led by Nana Kwadwo Obiri, The General Secretary of The Ghana Federation of Traditional Medicine Practitioners Associations (GHAFTRAM) and Dr. Arthur, and a Council member of the Traditional Medicine Practice Council (TMPC) on the 15th of January 2024 paid a visit to the Faculty of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences. Members of the Faculty present were the Dean, Prof. Samuel Asare-Nkansah, Vice-Dean and the Head of the Department of Herbal Medicine, Prof. Isaac K. Amponsah, and Dr. Bernard K. Turkson, lecturer, Department of Herbal Medicine.

Nana Obiri in his presentation indicated that there is a need for the Department of Herbal Medicine to consider coming up with a course that will introduce students to indigenous traditional medicine. This he said will help the students appreciate the role of such knowledge and also help preserve such knowledge as most of the practitioners are very old and some have passed on. He also indicated the need to strengthen collaboration between the Federation and the Faculty to help build the capacity of practitioners. In addition, Nana Obiri suggested that there are most practitioners with advanced knowledge who should be invited to support with some practical training of the students during vacation. Lastly, he believes there is a need for persons doing well in the traditional medicine industry to be duly recognized by the Faculty.

Prof. Samuel Asare-Nkansah, the Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences indicated that all the concerns raised are well noted and the necessary steps will be taken to address them. Prof. Asare-Nkansah again said that collaboration is key and will ensure capacity building and training programmes will be developed to ensure practitioners are equipped to meet the industry's demand.

Prof. Isaac Amponsah in his remarks revealed that, the Department is appreciative of the visit and that, the doors of the Department of Herbal Medicine are open to them as it has been.
