College of Health Sciences, KNUST has organized a three-day orientation for newly admitted PhD students from the 8th – 10th of February 2023 at the College Boardroom.

The orientation was packed with a series of topics that were presented by some experienced resource persons to equip the Ph.D. students with the requisite knowledge through their journey.

Professor Alexander Yaw Debrah, the Graduate Committee Chairman of the College of Health Sciences introduced the purpose of the orientation and also gave some orientation details which included Courses Registration, Programme Duration (full-time/ part-time), Supervision, and the Appropriateness and Relevance of their research areas.

Professor Yaw Adu-Sarkodie presented on Funding and Sponsoring PhD. He highlighted Self-financing, Scholarships, Studentship projects, and the University and International Funding Agencies. Professor Adu-Sarkodie gave out some budgeting tips and cautioned the PhD students not to be extravagant but check the permitted maximum from a sponsor.

The PhD students were also taken through capacity-building training, using UITS platforms for studies, Research theory and methods, Ethical Issues, and Intellectual and Patency among others.

Professor Christian Agyare, Provost of the College of Health Sciences, in his remarks urged the PhD students to help the College maintain its high standard of research output. He also added that the Postgraduate students must have their representation on the College Board to help the forward movement of the College.

A total of forty-one (41) PhD candidates were admitted in the 2022/2023 academic year by the College. Sharing their experience from the orientation, some of the PhD students experienced their appreciation to the College of Health Sciences for providing the avenue for them to be equipped for their study. They noted that all the knowledge gathered will be put to good use.
