College of Health Sciences, KNUST discusses possible collaborations with the University of Florida, USA
A representative from the University of Florida's Center for African Studies, Mr. Miles Larmer visited the Provost of the College of Health Sciences, KNUST, Prof Christian Agyare to discuss potential areas for collaboration in health sciences on the 8th of July, 2024.
Professor Christian Agyare, Provost of the College of Health Sciences at KNUST, warmly welcomed Mr. Miles Larmer, the University of Florida representative, expressing his enthusiasm for the collaboration, and pledging his full support to ensure the success of this partnership.
Mr. Larmer's visit to KNUST is part of a larger effort by the University of Florida to strengthen ties with leading African universities. During his four-day stay, he met with faculty from various departments across the KNUST, focusing on potential areas of collaboration. The meeting with the Provost of the College of Health Sciences served as a platform for Mr. Larmer to introduce himself, explain the University of Florida's vision for this partnership, and explore opportunities for future collaborations.
Mr. Larmer emphasized the benefits of collaboration for KNUST and the University of Florida, their faculty, and students. He lauded the expertise of KNUST in thematic research areas like tropical medicine, nursing, and public health, particularly in the context of Ghana. “These areas are also of great concern to the University of Florida, especially through the Center for African Studies, which prioritizes health and well-being. By working together, both universities can build upon their strengths and leverage their combined knowledge to create a positive impact on communities both in Ghana and Florida” he added.
He further stated that; the potential partnership is seen as beneficial for all involved, offering opportunities for research collaboration, student exchange programs, and the sharing of best practices in health sciences education. “It is an exciting prospect to work together to address critical health challenges and improve the health outcomes for everyone" – he explained”
This meeting was just the first step in what promises to be a valuable partnership. Both KNUST and the University of Florida are committed to advancing health sciences research and education, and this collaboration has the potential to benefit both institutions, their students, and communities in Ghana and the United States of America.
