College of Health Sciences Launches Inaugural Endowment Fund Day to Support Health Education and Research

On March 7, 2025, the College of Health Sciences (CHS) at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) marked the first-ever Endowment Fund Day at the CHS Boardroom. The event, which is set to be held twice or thrice annually, aims to raise awareness about the College’s Endowment Fund and its crucial role in the development of health education and research in Ghana.
The College of Health Sciences Endowment Fund is part of a strategic initiative to address the challenges of funding for postgraduate training, research, and the retention of brilliant health professionals in Ghana. With a growing student population and increasing brain drain, the College seeks to create opportunities to keep talented students in the country, especially in the health sector, which faces considerable challenges.
The day began with a warm welcome speech from Professor Christian Agyare, Provost of the College of Health Sciences. He expressed his gratitude to all staff for their support and attendance, emphasizing that every contribution, no matter how small, would significantly impact the future of health education and research at the College. He urged staff to become ambassadors for the Endowment Fund and actively work to attract more support to ensure its continued success.
The Chairman of the Endowment Fund Committee expressed his deep gratitude to all committee members for their dedicated efforts in supporting the fund. Addressing the staff at the Endowment Fund Day celebration, he highlighted that the committee held a media soiree and the official launch of the fund in Accra. The Chairman then presented a list of individuals and companies, including KNUST staff, who had contributed to the fund and encouraged all staff members to do the same. The chairman, also, encouraged staff of the College to submit details of people who could potentially donate to the fund and that such effort would be rewarded by the College.
In alignment with the University’s commitment to promoting the well-being of its staff, the event also included a wellness session aimed at improving the overall health of the College’s staff. Miss Elizabeth Gyakyewaa Kwarteng, a dietician and senior nursing officer from the University Health Services, delivered an insightful talk on the importance of diet in maintaining good health. She provided valuable advice on the types of coffee to consume for health benefits and which to avoid, reminding staff of the importance of considering what they consume daily.
Professor Nicholas Akinwale Titiloye, Chairman of the College’s Wellness Committee, also provided an overview of the College’s ongoing wellness initiatives. He emphasized the College's commitment to the welfare and well-being of its staff and announced plans for first aid training for them. This initiative is part of a broader effort to ensure that the College remains a supportive and healthy environment for all.
The College of Health Sciences remains committed to providing high-quality training, fostering research, and supporting the welfare of its staff and students. Through the Endowment Fund, the College will continue to contribute to the advancement of health education in Ghana, creating a lasting impact on the nation’s health sector.
