End of Year Message from the Provost, Professor Christian Agyare College of Health Sciences, KNUST– 2024 i

As we close the year 2024, it is with great pride and gratitude that I reflect on the remarkable milestones we have achieved together at the College of Health Sciences, Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST). This year has been one of significant growth, innovation, and impact, as we continue to fulfill our mission of advancing healthcare through education, research, and service.

An important milestone this year has been our successful implementation of computer-based examinations. We successfully carried out computer-based examinations, starting with the nationwide exams for the Health Training Institutions, and this approach will continue for mid-semester and end-of-semester examinations within the various Schools and Faculties next academic year. In addition, we have embraced Artificial Intelligence for setting examination questions, significantly reducing the time spent on manual question creation while maintaining high standards. A three-day training was held for staff to ensure effective integration of these technologies. As we move forward, I am confident that these advancements will further strengthen our educational offerings, training and prepare our students to be quality health professionals.

Our 2nd Postgraduate Conference was another significant achievement, bringing together over 500 researchers to share their innovative research works. The conference has become a crucial platform for knowledge exchange, strengthening KNUST’s position as a hub for cutting-edge health sciences research. I am proud of the excellent work presented by our students and faculty, which continues to push the boundaries of healthcare knowledge.

Building on the initiatives we've introduced throughout the year, I am pleased to reflect on the progress we have made at the College of Health Sciences (CHS). One of the landmark successes was the organization of our 4-day retreat at Rock City Hotel, Nkwatia-Kwahu for senior members, where we explored the integration of a Problem-Based Learning (PBL) approach into our curricula. This shift aims to foster a more dynamic and collaborative learning environment, benefiting both students and educators alike.

In addition, we celebrated the outstanding achievements of our community at the 2nd CHS Excellence Awards Ceremony, held on March 27th at the Great Hall of KNUST. The event honoured the hard work of our staff, students, and alumni who have excelled in their respective fields.

Moreover, the launch of the College of Health Sciences Endowment Fund in October was a breakthrough achievement. Our goal to raise 10 million US Dollars over the next five years will significantly enhance the training of high-quality health professionals, support health research, provide scholarships, and procure essential equipment for our programmes. This fund is a vital step in ensuring that our College continues to lead in producing healthcare professionals who are well-equipped to meet global healthcare needs.

Finally, I would like to congratulate the 1,713 graduates from the College who were conferred degrees at the 58th Congregation of KNUST. These graduates represent the culmination of years of hard work and dedication. We are incredibly proud of their accomplishments and look forward to seeing the positive impact they will have in their respective fields.

As we reflect on these successes, I must also take this opportunity to express my heartfelt gratitude to the hardworking and dedicated staff who have contributed so much to our achievements. Your tireless efforts, professionalism, and unwavering commitment to excellence have been the backbone of our success this year. To all our staff, your support has been invaluable in helping us reach new heights. I thank you all for your dedication and for going above and beyond to ensure the smooth running of our operations.

Looking ahead to 2025, I am thrilled to share that we will continue our tradition of organizing the 11th Biennial Scientific Conference, uniting health professionals and scientists from across the globe to tackle pressing global health challenges. The 11th edition of the conference will offer an opportunity to deepen our understanding of critical health issues, promote valuable networking, and highlight the latest advancements in scientific research. This event promises to be another significant milestone in our dedication to advancing healthcare across the globe.

As we enter the new year, I encourage us to continue striving for excellence in everything we do. The achievements of 2024 are only the beginning, and I am excited for what lies ahead. Together, we will continue to build on our strong foundation, advancing healthcare education, research, and practice for the betterment of society.

Thank you once again for your dedication, hard work, and continued support. I wish you all a joyful, restful holiday season and a prosperous 2025.
