FDA inspects the KNUST Department of Herbal Medicine laboratories

The Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) on the 7th of September, 2022 inspected the laboratories at the Department of Herbal Medicine which mostly conducts tests on the efficacy and standard of Herbal Medicines in Ghana.
The FDA was represented by a five (5) - member team who visited the various laboratories in the Department of Herbal Medicine and the others in the Faculty of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences. The FDA team led by Eric Karikari-Boateng assessed the capacity of the facility and its ability to conduct acute-toxicity studies to support Herbal Drug registration in Ghana.
Mr. Evans Ndeyun, a member of the FDA team referred to the inspection as a successful one and was optimistic the recommendations made by their team will be considered by the Department and the Faculty of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences to ensure high-quality standards.
After the inspection, the FDA team together with Professor Samuel Asare Nkansah, the College of Health Sciences (CHS) Exams Officer, and Professor Ayensu, the Head of the Herbal Medicine Department paid a courtesy visit to the Provost of CHS, Professor Christian Agyare. Prof. Agyare appreciated the FDA team for coming to the College and bringing on their expertise to improve the work output of the Laboratories and other facilities.
