Handing Over Ceremony for Health Sciences Students Association Leadership
On the 3rd of September, 2024, a formal handing-over ceremony was held at the Provost Office Board Room of the College of Health Sciences. The outgoing student leadership, under President Bernard Bosomah Yeboah, officially passed on their duties to the newly elected executives. Key figures, such as College Finance Officer Mr. Jamal and Provost of the College of Health Sciences, Professor Christian Agyare, gave speeches at the event.
Mr. Jamil Ibrahim Badu, the College's Finance Officer commended the outgoing executives for their service, highlighting the importance of financial prudence in leadership. “The outgoing team has done their part. Our needs are always insatiable, but financial resources are limited. As students and future leaders, it’s essential to prioritize and use resources wisely,” he urged, advising the incoming leaders to uphold these principles to make a lasting impact.
Professor Christian Agyare extended a warm welcome to the new leaders, praising the outgoing team, particularly for their role in introducing clinical fees. He acknowledged that while it was a difficult task, the outgoing executives managed to get students to understand the need for the fees, despite financial challenges. He added that measures were being put in place to assist students who have difficulty paying these fees. Reflecting on the achievements of the outgoing team, Professor Agyare mentioned the near completion of a study area initiated by the leadership, which will be a lasting legacy. He also announced the approval of the college cloth, which had been proposed by the outgoing executives.
In his closing remarks, Professor Agyare stressed the importance of integrity and teamwork in leadership. “Leadership is a sacrifice. Make sure the decisions you take today will benefit future generations,” he advised, encouraging the new team to work collaboratively, seek input from all members, and be sensitive to the financial needs of students. He also emphasized that they should continue seeking advice from their predecessors.
The ceremony also included the official launch of the Health Science Students' Association (HESA) cloth, a symbol of unity and identity for the students. The cloth, priced at GHC 30 per yard and GHC 65 for two yards, will be sold to generate income to support students in need.
