Health Sciences Students Association launches its 5th Anniversary Celebration
Health Sciences Students’ Association (HESA) has launched its 5th Anniversary Celebration on the theme “Overcoming challenges, building resilience and sustaining a fresh start for greater impact post-Covid-19”. The launch was held on 29th April 2022 at the School of Medicine and Dentistry Block B Auditorium, Boadi also witnessed the outdooring of two projects.
In his address, Kwame Adu Okyere Boadu, the President of HESA stated that the Association was formed to provide a conducive environment for the growth of its members and render a social responsibility of providing health care education and support to KNUST and its neighbouring communities. He also urged all the members of HESA to tread exceptionally as they seek more significant impact in all endeavours. Kwame Adu Okyere Boadu revealed that the Association will be constructing a bus stop and reading area at the Boadi Medical enclave as part of its memorabilia for the 5th Anniversary Celebration.

Professor Richard Odame Phillips, the director of Kumasi Centre for Collaborative Research on Tropical Medicine (KCCR) provided the keynote address on Covid-19 pandemic, its control strategy which included the innovative approach of using mobile testing vans at hotspot areas, the efforts and challenges KCCR and other Health professionals during the pandemic.
He applauded HESA for their involvement when volunteers were needed in educating the public on Covid-19. Professor Phillips encouraged the Association to position themselves into spaces of relevance in the health sector, embrace the use of digital technology and also work together to make better impact.

Speaking on behalf of the Provost of the College of Health Sciences, Professor Benjamin Emipke reiterated that the Association needs togetherness to thrive. He revealed that the College will support the Bus stop and reading area project by the Association and calls for more community engagements by HESA for them to stay relevant. The launch was climaxed with cake-cutting and fundraising in support of the project.
