MBChB Year 2 Crowned Champions in KNUST School of Medical Sciences Inter-Class Quiz Competition
The KNUST School of Medical Sciences (SMS) successfully organized an Inter-Class Quiz Competition on 26th May 2026 at the Boadi Medical Enclave as part of activities commemorating the 75th Anniversary of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST).
The competition brought together students from various programmes and levels within the School of Medical Sciences in a thrilling display of intellect, teamwork, and academic excellence. Participating teams represented Human Biology Year 1, Human Biology Year 2, Human Biology Year 3, Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB) Year 1, MBChB Year 2, Physician Assistantship Year 3, and Physician Assistantship Year 4. The event provided a platform for students to engage in healthy academic competition while deepening their appreciation of KNUST's history and legacy.
Contestants were challenged in a series of rounds covering the History of KNUST, the life and contributions of Ghana’s first President and founder of the University, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, as well as Current Affairs. The competition tested participants’ knowledge, critical thinking, teamwork, and speed, creating an atmosphere of excitement and learning throughout the contest.
Representing Human Biology Year 1 were Tawiah Maxwell, Victoria Atumowe Atanga, and Emmanuel Hoffman. Human Biology Year 2 was represented by Amoh-Sakyi Angel, Eshun Paa Ramsey, and Fredua Agyemang Onassis, while Human Biology Year 3 fielded Abubakari Asana, Amponsah Martinson Kwabena, and Buertey Sagesse Kwame Ansere. MBChB Year 1 was represented by Alex Opoku Manu, Sohidit Sandra Bugpokbil, and Tagoe Sharon Adarko. The eventual champions, MBChB Year 2, were represented by Kwame Ahenkora Antwi, Huda Adam, and Ekow Sam-Awortwi. The Physician Assistantship programme was represented by Jane Afua Yesua Aseda Ampiaw, Kristian Kofi Antwi, and Jonathan Ankomah from Year 3, and Bright Eshun, Francis Nartey, and Jeffery Frimpong Darah from Year 4.

Following a keenly contested battle of wits, MBChB Year 2 emerged as overall champions, demonstrating exceptional knowledge, teamwork, and consistency throughout the competition. Their outstanding performance earned them the top honour in a contest that showcased the academic prowess of students across the School.
The Inter-Class Quiz Competition formed part of the School of Medical Sciences’ contribution to the University's year-long celebrations marking 75 years of excellence in teaching, research, innovation, and service. Beyond the competition itself, the event served as an opportunity to strengthen camaraderie among students and foster a deeper appreciation of KNUST's heritage and national impact.
Speaking after the competition, organizers commended all participating teams for their dedication, preparation, and sportsmanship. They noted that the event reflected the School's commitment to nurturing well-rounded healthcare professionals who possess not only technical competence but also a strong understanding of history, leadership, and current affairs.
As KNUST continues to celebrate its diamond jubilee, activities such as the School of Medical Sciences Inter-Class Quiz underscore the University's enduring commitment to academic excellence, student engagement, and the cultivation of future leaders in health and medicine.
