The National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA), as part of its corporate responsibility towards the training of healthcare professionals in the country and in partnership with Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Kumasi, delivered a 30-seater coaster bus to the KNUST School of Medicine and Dentistry on Tuesday, 1st August 2023.

According to the Provost of the College of Health Sciences, Professor Christian Agyare, due to the Vice Chancellor’s efforts to improve the reliability and efficiency of the shuttling system in the University, the Management of the College embarked on a strategy to increase the number of buses in the College to help in transporting students to External Teaching Sites and the Boadi Classroom Building Complex. In this regard, they appealed to stakeholders and management of corporate institutions in the country, including the National Health Insurance Authority. The Provost expressed his appreciation for the swift response to their call by the NHIA.

In his address, the Chief Executive Officer of the NHIA, Dr. Bernard Okoe-Boye, stressed that the donation was a direct response to the call by the College of Health Sciences. He clarified that although NHIA has been widely recognised for covering medical expenses, its commitment extends beyond just providing access to healthcare. In addition to that, NHIA is equally dedicated to supporting healthcare providers, including institutions like KNUST, in their efforts to train and nurture the next generation of medical students.
Dr. Okoe-Boye expressed his sincere desire to foster a long-term relationship with KNUST.

The Vice-Chancellor of KNUST, Professor (Mrs.) Rita Akosua Dickson commended the NHIA for their generous gesture, emphasising that KNUST places great value on collaborative partnerships that involve comprehensive healthcare professional training, practical hands-on experience, and exposure to real-world healthcare settings. The Vice-Chancellor welcomed NHIA's support and appealed for additional assistance in other areas. She expressed confidence that the partnership will not only yield local benefits but will also positively impact the global community.
Accompanying the CEO were Mr. Oswald Essuah-Mensah, Acting Director of Corporate Affairs; Mr. Frank Yeboah, Acting Director of Procurement and Projects Manager; Mr. Francis Oti Frimpong, Acting Operations Director; Mr. Kwadwo Tweneboa-Kodua, Acting Director of Ashanti Region; Vida Adutwumwaa Boateng, Acting Deputy Director of CAF; Mr. Karim Nagtogmah, Senior Manager of CAF; and other District Managers.
