Prof Akwasi Antwi Kusi, the New Vice Dean of The School Of Medicine And Dentistry
Prof. Akwasi Antwi-Kusi has been appointed as the new Vice Dean of the KNUST School of Medicine and Dentistry. He assumed the new role on the 1st of November 2022.
He has served as the head of the Anaesthesiology and Intensive Care Department from 2012-2014 and 2016-2018.
He is a clinically active Anaesthesiologist, Intensivist, and Pain Management Specialist at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, providing perioperative care with a particular focus on improving patient outcomes after surgery and critical illness.
Prof. Antwi-Kusi’s clinical and research interest is in perioperative care and pain management with an emphasis on interventional nerve blocks. He is passionate about obstetric anaesthesia and labour pain management. Through his interest and research in pain management, he has been able to change completely the practice of post-operative pain management in Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital and other district and regional hospitals across Ghana. This has been possible through the writing of pain management protocols and the annual UPDATE IN ANAESTHESIA CONFERENCES which he has been organizing since 2003.
