Professor (Mrs.) Rita Akosua Dickson Inaugurates SDG Champion Committees
The Provost of the College of Health Sciences, Professor Christian Agyare and Professor (Mrs.) Cynthia Amaning Danquah of the Faculty of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences has been appointed as Chairperson of the Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) Champion Committees on the 9th of September, 2022 at the Council Chamber, KNUST.
The Vice-Chancellor of the Kwame Nkrumah of Science and Technology (KNUST), Kumasi, Professor (Mrs.) Rita Akosua Dickson on the day, inaugurated 17 SDG committees to ensure that the SDGs are realised and strengthened. The committees are to rally all stakeholders (staff, students, and partners) toward the specific SDG, assist in the provision of annual data for submission to the Times Higher Education Impact Ranking, and work closely with the University Ranking Committee towards achieving respective goals and provide quarterly reports to the Vice-Chancellor.
At the brief event, Professor Christian Agyare was sworn in as the Chair of SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-Being while Professor (Mrs.) Cynthia Amaning was sworn in as the Chair of SDG 10 (Reduced Inequalities).
The following individuals from other Colleges were appointed to chair the other fifteen (15) Committees: Professor Wilson Agyei Agyare, SDG 1 (No Poverty); Professor Ben Kwaku Branoh Banful, SDG 2 (Zero Hunger); Professor Jerry John Kponyo, SDG 4 (Quality Education); Professor Ibok Nsa Oduro, SDG 5 (Gender Equality); Professor Kwaku Amaning Agyei, SDG 6 (Clean Water and Sanitation); Professor Francis Kemausuor, SDG 7 (Affordable and Clean Energy); Professor (Sr.) Eugenia Amporfu, SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth).
The others are Professor Dadson Awunyo-Vitor, SDG 9 (Industry Innovation and Infrastructure); Professor Michael Opoku Boansi, SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities); Professor Sampson Oduro-Kwarteng, SDG 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production); Professor Robert Clement Abaidoo, SDG 13 (Climate Action), Professor Daniel Adjei Boateng, SDG 14 (Life below Water), Professor Emmanuel Danquah, SDG 15 (Life on Land), Professor Oswald Senadza, SDG 16 (Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions) and Professor Daniel Yaw Addai Duah, SDG 17 (Partnership for the Goals).
Professor (Mrs.) Dickson indicated that following up on summer school and a sequel to the Times Higher Education Impact Ranking, the University decided to maintain the effort of actualising the Sustainable Development Goals by inaugurating SDG Champion Committees. The SDGs, she added, call for the contribution of everyone to ensuring a better environment for this generation and posterity.
She thanked the committees for accepting the huge task and urged them to give off their best.
The Director of the Directorate of Students Affairs, Professor Wilson Agyei Agyare in accepting the responsibilities on behalf of the seventeen (17) committees pledged to work tirelessly to ensure the realisation of all the set goals.
