The Registrars and School Secretaries of the College of Health Sciences KNUST (CHS), represented by Mr Harley Anane (Registrar, School of Medicine and Dentistry) and Mrs Benedicta Kwakye (Registrar, Faculty of Allied Health Sciences) paid a courtesy visit to Richard Appiah-Nkyi Esq. the Former Registrar of the CHS on the 31st July 2023 at his Law firm.

Speaking on behalf of the Registrars and School Secretaries, Mrs Benedicta Kwakye lauded the achievements of Mr Appiah-Nkyi and his enormous contributions to the College of Health Sciences, especially to the Registrar’s Office. They presented a Citation of Honour to appreciate his remarkable service as Registrar of CHS. Mr Richard Appiah-Nkyi expressed his elation for the visit and the kind gesture from the Registrars and School Secretaries of CHS.

Richard Appiah-Nkyi Esq. appreciated the kind gesture of the Registrars and Secretaries. He also wished them the best in all their endeavours.

Mr Richard Appiah-Nkyi, until his retirement from the service of KNUST, with effect from 1st January 2023, was the Deputy/College Registrar, College of Health Sciences. He was in the service of KNUST, for almost twenty-six (26) years. He is an astute lawyer of twenty-eight (28) years standing at the Ghana Bar. The University Council offered him an additional appointment as University Internal Solicitor on 1st November 2000, which position he held until 1st January 2023 when he proceeded on compulsory retirement.

He holds MBA (Corporate Strategy & Economic Policy) from Maastricht School of Management (MsM), Maastricht, The Netherlands, under the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFUND) Scholarship.

Mr Richard Appiah-Nkyi has, over the years, handled and still handles, a lot of cases, from the Regional Rent Office, Kumasi up to the Supreme Court, for corporate and individual clients. He rendered the following services to KNUST: He represented the University in a number of cases, in court such as the Court of Appeal, Kumasi; High Court, Kumasi and Sunyani; Circuit Court, Sunyani. He also proffered a lot of legal opinions by way of advising the Management of KNUST. He drafted, for execution, a lot of Agreements for KNUST, including Venture Agreements.

Mr. Appiah-Nkyi provided input to the establishment of the Legal Office in 2000 which office, among other things, represents the University in court cases. In 2000, drafted the Transitional Provisions of the University Statutes, April 2000, by which the University smoothly transited from one legal milieu to another. He reviewed the Draft Bill of the then KNUST School of Mines, Tarkwa, which was passed by the Parliament of the Republic of Ghana for the establishment of the University of Mines and Technology, Tarkwa. He prepared a Template Contract of Guarantee between KNUST and Staff, on Study Leave, which was adopted by the University in 2006.

Among his notable exploits, he prepared a Template Contract of Guarantee between KNUST and Students, on KNUST Scholarships/Vice-Chancellor’s Initiative, to ensure that the students perform their part of the contract by serving KNUST in completing their programmes. The University adopted the template in 2006.

He ably served as the Secretary to the Search Committee for the appointment of the 1st Non-President Chancellor of the University, in the person of the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II and also served as the Secretary to the Committee for the establishment of the Law Faculty at the University.

He served as a Resource Person for the Registrar’s Offices and the College of Health Sciences and made a number of presentations at Staff/Management Training Programmes.
