Prof Christian Agyare i

As the year draws to a close, I am filled with gratitude for how our commitment and collective efforts as staff and students, have helped attain all the successes and achievements of the College of Health Sciences, KNUST in the year 2022.

This time of the year is used to reflect on and acknowledge the work, challenges, and achievements throughout the College of Health Sciences. 2022 has been a unique year with new and unprecedented events not only within the College but the entire University.

The College of Health Sciences held a number of events in 2022 which was well patronized by the Staff and students. In February 2022, the College organized a wellness and free health screening for all the Staff to facilitate good working conditions which will, in turn, help fulfil the College's mission and vision of teaching, research, and community service. The College also recognized the outstanding Staff and students in various disciplines in the maiden College of Health Sciences Awards at the Great Hall, KNUST in March 2022.  The College of Health Sciences in the vein of building capacity and enforcing team bonding, successfully organized a four-day Retreat to promote quality education by implementing integrated and case-based learning and effective management skills for academic and non-academic senior members.

In line with the vision of the Vice-Chancellor to position the University as a hub and institution noted for postgraduate training in Ghana, I am happy to inform you that the College with the approval and support from the University has introduced 12 new postgraduate programmes (i.e. MSc/MPhil and PhD programmes) in addition to the existing programmes, and also 2 undergraduate programmes this academic year.

And again the College of Health Sciences stills holds the enviable record in the University on Research outputs that support health care in the country and also brings in some funds and grants to the University. The College through the hardworking senior members was able to attract a total research grant of almost 5.2 million US dollars during the year under review.

The College continues to lead in the area of research outputs from the University with a total of 715 publications which form 30.6% of the total publications in the University as captured in the last edition (i.e. 18th Edition) of Quality Assurance Bulletin produced by the University.

I am excited that in 2023 we will continue our series of Biennial Scientific Conferences which will bring together health professionals and scientists across the globe to deliberate on health issues of global concern. Next year’s conference will be the 10th edition and will provide more insight into global health issues, avenues to network and scientific exhibitions.

Many of you will be spending the holiday and vacation with your family and friends. I believe this would be a time of rest and relaxation, as well as a chance to rejuvenate and strategize as we look forward to a positive New Year.
