KNUST College of Health Sciences and York University's Faculty of Health Engage in Constructive Discussions
A delegation from the Faculty of Health at York University and the Canada Research Chair in Global Health and Humanitarianism paid a courtesy visit to the College of Health Sciences (CHS) of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Kumasi. The meeting, held on Tuesday, 6th June 2023, sought to explore conversations on health partnerships between both institutions.
Dr George Boateng, the Canada Research Chair in Global Health and Humanitarianism, expressed his keen interest in international collaborations. He disclosed the various opportunities to be explored between KNUST and York University to facilitate research collaborations and exchange programmes, especially in the areas of Global Health and Nursing. He highlighted the diverse array of programmes, schools, and departments within their faculty.

In his response, Professor Christian Agyare, the Provost of CHS, outlined the composition of the College, which comprises five (5) Schools/Faculties and two (2) Research Centres. In relation to Global Health and Nursing, he revealed that the College is set to run Postgraduate programmes (MPhil and PhD) in Nursing and Midwifery and, as such, is open to collaborations on faculty development. Professor Agyare stressed the importance of focusing the collaboration on research, graduate training, and staff and student exchange programmes for the development of the College.
Professor Daniel Ansong, the Dean of the KNUST School of Medicine and Dentistry (SMD) added that the Strategic Plan of the College of Health Sciences makes it welcoming for the College to open up to such collaborations. He emphasised that CHS and the School of Medicine and Dentistry’s engagement in Community and Global Health have been strengthened through such collaborations and partnerships.
Dr. George Boateng was accompanied by Professor Julie Hard, International Relations Manager, York University (Faculty of Health); Professor Catriona Buick and Robert Quansah (Hospital Administrator, Mansah Memorial Hospital).
