Senior Leadership from York University, Canada visits CHS
The College of Health Sciences of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) on the 11th March 2024 received a courtesy visit from the Senior Leadership of York University in Canada to discuss and improve collaboration ties.
Prof. Amir Asif, Vice-President of Research & Innovation and Head of Delegation in his remarks presented an overview of York University, its student body, programmes offered, infrastructure, and some research areas. He indicated that York University is the third largest University in Canada with a student size of over 55,000. Prof Amir Asif also revealed that York University is open to collaborating with KNUST in the areas of Nursing, Pharmacy, and Medical Sciences which they hope will grow from the community to the global level.
The delegation from York University expressed interest in collaborating through research in the areas of Non-Communicable Disease, antimicrobial resistance, Occupational Health, and One Health.
Professor Richard Phillips, the Scientific Director of Kumasi Center for Collaborative Research in Tropical Medicine (KCCR), Professor Eric Apau Asante, the Director of KNUST eLearning Center and the Deans of the various Schools and Faculties of the College of Health Sciences gave a detailed overview id their various units and areas they can collaborate with York Unversity.
The Delegation comprised Prof. Amir Asif, Vice-President of Research & Innovation and Head of Delegation, Prof. David Henry Peters (Dean, Faculty of Health), Prof. John Justin McMurtry (Dean, Faculty of Liberal Arts & Professional Studies), Prof. Solomon Boakye-Yiadom (Faculty of Engineering and KNUST Alumnus), Prof. Godfred Boateng (Director of the Global and Environmental Health Lab & Chair and Faculty Fellow, Dahdaleh Institute for Global Health Research), Skandha Sunderasen (Associate Director, Global Engagement & Strategic Initiatives) and Julie Hard (International Relations Manager, Faculty of Health).
