On Monday, 25th November 2024, the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) held its 58th Congregation, celebrating the academic achievements of 1,713 undergraduate students from the College of Health Sciences. The event, which took place at the prestigious Great Hall, was divided into two sessions—9:00 AM for the morning session and 2:00 PM for the afternoon session—each filled with joyous moments, heartfelt speeches, and a deep sense of pride as students marked the culmination of their academic journeys. This year’s graduation marked another significant milestone for KNUST as it continues to lead the way in shaping future healthcare professionals.

The ceremony was a fitting tribute to the 1,713 students who had completed their studies in various health-related fields encompassing the School of Medical Sciences, the Faculty of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences, the Faculty of Allied Health Sciences, the School of Dentistry, the School of Nursing and Midwifery, School of Public Health and School of Veterinary Medicine. Their academic path had been long and challenging, and this ceremony marked the transition from students to professionals, equipped to serve in diverse healthcare environments.

The day was filled with profound celebrations, inspiring speeches, and a sense of pride as students, dressed in their ceremonial robes, were surrounded by their families, friends, and loved ones, all gathered to witness this remarkable achievement. The ceremony began with a procession of lecturers, followed by a procession of graduates, each group highlighting the diverse health science disciplines of this year’s class.

The event was marked by a blend of formalities and inspiring moments, as various prominent figures from the health sector delivered addresses filled with encouragement, wisdom, and insights into the future that awaited the graduates. These speakers, who are leading experts in their respective fields, shared their experiences and offered valuable advice to the students as they prepared to embark on their professional journeys.

The keynote address was delivered by ​​​​​​​Dr Richmond Adusa - Poku, a senior health professional, who commended the graduates for their unwavering commitment to excellence during their academic journey at KNUST and their contribution to the country’s health sector. “Today, you stand as symbols of hope, resilience, and the future of healthcare in Ghana,” the speaker remarked. “As healthcare professionals, you have a duty not only to heal but to inspire and uplift your communities. Remember, the lives you touch will be the true measure of your success.”

As degrees were awarded, the hall was filled with cheers, applause, and a strong sense of pride. Awards were given to outstanding students who had excelled in both their studies and leadership. The recipients were:

The highlight of the day’s ceremony came with the valedictory address delivered by the overall best-graduating student, Ohene-Amoani Kwaku, from the School of Medical Sciences who graduated with a CWA of 83.19. Standing before his peers, faculty members, and family, the valedictorian expressed heartfelt gratitude to the university for the education received and sharing aspirations for the future, the valedictorian shared insights into the glorious moments and difficulties faced during their years of learning within the College of Health Sciences.

The 58th Congregation of the College of Health Sciences at KNUST was a fitting celebration of the hard work, dedication, and resilience of its graduates. As they left the Great Hall, the graduates were not only ready to embark on their professional careers but also inspired to make a difference in the world of healthcare.

Their education at KNUST has prepared them to confront the complex health challenges of the future, equipped with both knowledge and compassion.
