CHS, DoSA and WiSTEM-Gh holds a hangout towards Academic Excellence for Students

In response to the ever-increasing academic and welfare needs of students, the Directorate of Student Affairs (DoSA) and Women in Science Technology Engineering and Mathematics-Ghana (WISTEM-Gh), on Thursday 27th July 2023, collaborated with the College of Health Sciences (CHS) to organize a seminar to offer an opportunity for students to be nurtured to take care of themselves and thrive on campus and beyond.

The seminar was under the theme; “Personal Grooming, Communication and Social Etiquette for Academic Excellence” and was aimed to groom KNUST students to be well equipped with soft and personal leadership skills, among others to improve their general appearance, academic and professional excellence.

The maiden seminar at the CHS was hosted by Dr. Evelyn Asante-Kwatia (Department of Pharmacognosy) and Miss Pauline Boachie-Ansah (Department of Pharmacy Practice) at the Lecture Hall 3 of the Faculty of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences. Over 250 students including students from the School of Medicine and Dentistry, the Faculty of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences, the Faculty of Allied Health Sciences, the School of Public Health, and the School of Veterinary Medicine participated in the seminar.

The two main speakers for the program were Dr. (Mrs.) Mercy Opare-Addo (Department of Pharmacy Practice) and Dr. (Mrs.) Adwoa Bema Boamah Mensah (Department of Nursing). In her presentation on Communication Etiquette for Excellence in the Health Profession, Dr. Mrs. Adwoa Bema Mensah Boamah enlightened the students on the need for effective communication among health professionals to achieve a common goal. Dr. Opare-Addo also engaged the students on personal grooming, leadership skills, attitude and social etiquette for academic excellence. The President of WISTEM-GH, Prof. Mrs. Ibok Oduro admonished students to be focused on their studies in order to achieve their goals and make an impact in society. Also in attendance were Dr. Mrs. Yaa Asantewaa Osei (Department of Pharmaceutics), Prof. Mrs. Linda Fonjo (Department of Molecular Biology), the College of Health Counselling Representative and other WISTEM members.
