The College of Health Sciences (CHS) at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) successfully held its second Endowment Fund Day on 18th July 2025 at the CHS Boardroom. This periodic event, which is expected to take place two to three times annually, aims to raise awareness about the CHS Endowment Fund and mobilize support toward advancing health education, training, and research in Ghana.

Opening the event, Professor Daniel Ansong, Chairman of the Endowment Fund Committee, gave a progress update on the Fund. He noted that this was the second official engagement of its kind and highlighted that the initiative is gaining recognition even outside the university community. He stressed the importance of growing the College as a unified body and expressed his sincere appreciation to all attendees for showing up and contributing to the cause.

As part of the day's activities, two informative health sessions were delivered.

Mr. Prince De-Gualle Deku from the Department of Physiotherapy and Sports Science gave a practical presentation on Simple Habits for a Healthy Life. He emphasized the importance of regular physical activity and mindful eating habits, advising against late-night meals. Mr. Deku noted that regular exercise can increase employee productivity by up to 15% and reduce sleep disturbances by 65%. His session was highly interactive, with participants engaging in light exercises right at the Boardroom — a fun and energizing moment that was well-received. He concluded with a Q&A session where attendees sought personalized advice on daily fitness routines.

Following this, Mr. Bezegr-Poniasah Paul, a physiotherapist at the KNUST Hospital, delivered an insightful lecture on Postural Education. He shared valuable tips on maintaining good posture in daily life, including the importance of wearing comfortable shoes, taking regular breaks to stretch and move, and using proper techniques for lifting and carrying objects. His session also included an open forum, allowing participants to ask questions and voice their concerns about posture-related issues. The discussion was engaging and helped raise awareness of how simple daily habits can significantly impact long-term health.

The event concluded with remarks from the Provost of the College, Professor Christian Agyare. He acknowledged the significant strides the College has made in establishing and promoting the Endowment Fund, but emphasized that much more remains to be done. He called on faculty, alumni, and friends of the College to become active donors and advocates of the Fund. “This initiative is about giving every deserving student a fair chance at success, regardless of their financial background,” he said. “Let’s work together to ensure this support reaches not only across CHS but across KNUST and Ghana as a whole.”

The CHS Endowment Fund Day continues to serve as a vital platform for advocacy, collaboration, and support. At its core, the Fund represents the College’s commitment to academic excellence, equity, and national development by empowering financially disadvantaged students to pursue their education and contribute meaningfully to Ghana’s healthcare system
