College of Health Sciences, KNUST Welcomes Delegation from University of Illinois, Chicago, USA i

The Provost of the College of Health Sciences at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Professor Christian Agyare, on the 8th May 2024 warmly received a delegation from the University of Illinois, Chicago to strengthen ties between the two esteemed institutions and explore collaborative opportunities in medical education and research.

The delegation led by Professor Isaac Kofi Owusu, the head of the Medicine Department of the KNUST School of Medical Sciences, expressed enthusiasm about the potential collaboration, emphasizing the mutual benefits it could bring to both institutions. "We are excited about the possibility of faculty members from the University of Illinois visiting us to assist in teaching medical students and residents, as well as transferring valuable skills to our trainees," he said.

The primary goal of the visit was to explore ways to establish faculty exchanges, which would allow the sharing of skills and knowledge in areas such as infectious illnesses. "We hope to welcome faculty members from the University of Illinois, along with their residents, to our campus, where they can engage in teaching and share experiences that may not be readily available in their home country," Professor Isaac Kofi Owusu added.

In addition to improving the teaching experience for medical students and residents, both institutions are eager to promote collaborative research projects. The relationship between KNUST and the University of Illinois, Chicago, is likely to have far-reaching implications for the Department of Medicine, the School of Medical Sciences, the College of Health Sciences, and KNUST in general.

The other members of the delegation from the University of Illinois, Chicago comprised of Christopher Fernandes, Assistant Professor of Medicine; Bill Galanter, Associate Professor; and Maarten Bosland, Professor of Pathology Emeritus.
