As part of the statutory Five-Year Cyclical Institutional Review, the College of Health Sciences (CHS) at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) on Tuesday, 3rd June 2025, hosted a delegation from the Ghana Tertiary Education Committee (GTEC) for a periodic review.

The visit forms a vital part of GTEC’s mandate under Section I (7) of the Education Regulatory Bodies Act, 2020 (Act 1023), which empowers the Committee to evaluate tertiary institutions to ensure internal accountability and promote continuous quality improvement.

The team from GTEC was warmly welcomed by the management of the College of Health Sciences, led by the Provost, Professor Christian Agyare. The College Examinations Officer, Professor James Oppong-Kyekyeku, gave an insightful overview of the College’s progress over the period in the areas of academics, research output, staff, students, and infrastructure. He also highlighted notable advancements, including the successful implementation of Computer-Based Examinations—a digital milestone aimed at improving assessment reliability and efficiency. He also announced the introduction of Graduate Entry Programmes, which are currently rolled out by the School of Medical Sciences. This innovative programme represents a significant achievement and a forward-looking initiative by the College to expand access to medical education.

The GTEC delegation expressed great satisfaction with the College’s developments and praised the leadership for its innovation and dedication. However, they also encouraged the College to expand its efforts in research that addresses national development needs, noting the critical role that impactful research plays in shaping Ghana’s health sector and educational policy.

In response, Professor Agyare thanked the Committee for its insightful feedback and reaffirmed College Health Sciences commitment to excellence in teaching, research, and service. He noted that the College remains focused on aligning its initiatives with national goals and global standards in health sciences education.
