The Vice Chancellor-elect of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Professor Christian Agyare, has paid a familiarisation visit to the College of Health Sciences (CHS) as part of his onboarding activities ahead of officially assuming office on August 1, 2026.
The visit, held on July 6, 2026, formed part of a University-wide engagement to acquaint the incoming Vice Chancellor with the operations, achievements and development priorities of the various colleges. He was accompanied by the incoming Provost of the College of Health Sciences, Professor Fred Stephen Sarfo.
The engagement provided an opportunity for Professor Agyare to interact with the College's leadership, faculty and staff while gaining first-hand insight into its academic programmes, research activities, laboratory facilities, infrastructure and strategic priorities.
Addressing members of the College, Professor Agyare reaffirmed his commitment to strengthening research, innovation and strategic partnerships, describing them as central to his vision of advancing KNUST from "Excellence to Eminence."
He emphasised that the successful implementation of the University's Strategic Plan requires the collective commitment of every member of the KNUST community.
"KNUST's Strategic Plan belongs to all of us. Its successful implementation requires the commitment, ownership and active participation of every member of our University community," he stated.
Professor Agyare further noted that achieving the University's vision would depend on building stronger strategic partnerships, promoting cutting-edge research and innovation, mobilising resources effectively and fostering collaboration across the University's colleges as well as with industry and other external stakeholders.
As part of the familiarisation tour, the Vice Chancellor-elect visited several teaching, clinical and research facilities within the College. The team toured the School of Veterinary Medicine (SVM) Pet Lodge and Veterinary Teaching Hospital, the College's emerging computer laboratory, the Pharmacy Production Unit and various teaching and research laboratories.
The tour allowed Professor Agyare and Professor Sarfo to engage with researchers and faculty members, observe ongoing scientific work and gain a deeper appreciation of the College's research strengths, existing infrastructure gaps and future development priorities.
The visit underscores the incoming Vice Chancellor's commitment to engaging directly with the University's academic community and understanding the unique strengths and challenges of each college as he prepares to lead KNUST into its next phase of growth and transformation.
The College of Health Sciences reaffirmed its readiness to work closely with the incoming University leadership in advancing excellence in health professions education, research, innovation and community impact, while contributing meaningfully to the University's strategic vision of achieving eminence.
