The Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) Wellness Centre, in collaboration with the University Health Services, has organized a two-day health screening exercise for staff of the College of Health Sciences. The screening, held on 2nd and 4th December 2025, formed a major part of the 2025 Wellness Months Celebration, which is themed “Reducing Hypertension Through Diet, Exercise, and Regular Care.”

The initiative aimed to promote preventive healthcare among staff and the wider university community. Participants underwent a series of essential tests, including Blood Pressure checks, Lipid Profile assessment, Blood Glucose monitoring, and Renal Function evaluation. These tests were carefully selected to support early detection and management of conditions such as hypertension, diabetes, and kidney-related diseases.

According to organizers, the program offers several benefits, including early risk identification, increased health consciousness, improved staff morale, and strengthened community bonds. By prioritizing preventive care, the university hopes to encourage healthier lifestyle choices among staff and reinforce its commitment to their well-being. The exercise also aligns with the institution’s goal of enhancing productivity through a healthier workforce.

Dr. Yaw Adu Boakye and Mrs. Abigail Annor, both members of the College of Health Sciences Wellness Committee, emphasized during their overview that bringing the exercise closer to staff was intentional. They noted that proximity encourages staff participation while helping identify early signs of illnesses. They highlighted the importance of primordial, primary, and secondary preventive measures in maintaining long-term health.

Dr. Adu Boakye further called on the university to intensify efforts in primordial prevention by managing workplace stress and anxiety levels. He recommended providing adequate breaks and creating a supportive work environment that enables staff to thrive physically and mentally.

Rev. (Prof.) Frances Emily Owusu-Ansah of the Department of Behavioural Sciences praised the organizers for the initiative, noting that many staff members may be unaware of their current health status. She stated that such screening programs are invaluable for early detection and prompt health interventions.

The 2025 Wellness Months Celebration continues to reinforce KNUST’s dedication to fostering a vibrant, health-conscious academic community through regular care, physical activity, and healthy dietary practices.
