Prof. Mariam El Boakye-Gyasi Appointed Head of Monitoring and Evaluation, QAPO

The Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Kumasi, has appointed Professor (Mrs) Mariam El Boakye-Gyasi as Acting Head of the Monitoring and Evaluation Department at the Quality Assurance and Planning Office (QAPO).
Prof. (Mrs) El-Boakye-Gyasi, an Associate Professor in the Department of Pharmaceutics at the Faculty of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences, teaches Pharmaceutics and Pharmaceutical Technology at both the undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
She holds a PhD, MPhil, and Bachelor of Pharmacy degree, all from KNUST, and is a registered pharmacist and a member of the Pharmaceutical Society of Ghana. Within her department, she serves as the Postgraduate Seminars and Research Coordinator and Deputy Examinations Officer.
Beyond her university role, Prof. El-Boakye-Gyasi has been elected National Chairperson of the Lady Pharmacists Association of Ghana (LAPAG), a professional body that promotes women’s leadership, mentorship, and empowerment in the pharmaceutical profession across the country. Her election underscores her national influence and commitment to advancing gender equity and excellence in pharmacy practice.
She also serves as the Academic Capacity Lead for the FIP-UNESCO UNITWIN Center for Excellence in Africa, is a member of FIP-WISE, and a Fellow of the University of Michigan African Presidential Scholars’ Program. Additionally, she serves as the Associate Editor of Tek Connect, the official alumni newsletter for KNUST Alumni and Friends.
Her research interests include drug formulation and quality control, use of local excipients in drug formulation, natural polymers, and nanotechnology.
As Head of the Monitoring and Evaluation Department, Prof. El-Boakye-Gyasi will oversee activities such as staff performance evaluation, development of appraisal mechanisms, service delivery assessments, and institutional policy evaluations. Her department is also responsible for conducting needs assessments, tracer studies, and exit polls for staff and students aimed at promoting institutional growth and transformation.
