On 28th August 2008, the College of Health Sciences, Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), held its first-ever Scientific Conference at the Noda Hotel in Kumasi. The historic gathering brought together leading health researchers, policymakers, and academics to deliberate on pressing public health issues confronting Ghana.

The maiden conference was held under the theme: “Addressing the Ghanaian Health Needs; Education and Research on HIV/AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria.” It provided a platform for multidisciplinary discussions on how education and research could shape effective interventions against these diseases, which continue to pose significant challenges to the nation’s healthcare system.

In attendance were prominent dignitaries, including the then Vice-Chancellor of KNUST, Professor K. K. Adarkwa, Professor Dr. Brobbey, Professor Peter Donkor (former Pro-Vice Chancellor of KNUST and Provost of the College of Health Sciences), as well as other distinguished scholars and practitioners in the health sciences field.

The conference served as a milestone in KNUST’s journey towards fostering research and knowledge-sharing in the health sector. It also laid the foundation for what has since become a tradition of scholarly exchange, shaping policies and advancing innovations in Ghana’s healthcare delivery system.

The success of this maiden event has, over the years, evolved into the Biennial Scientific Conference of the College of Health Sciences, KNUST, which continues to attract experts and stakeholders from across the globe.

The 11th edition of the Scientific Conference takes off from the 10th to 12th September 2025, beginning with a Pre-conference Workshop at the various Schools and Faculties in the College.
